BELÉM, Brazil - 11 November 2025
Together, 17 leading companies, with local and national Brazilian government support, have joined the Laneshift e-Dutra project and initiated deployments of electric trucks and chargers along the Rio de Janeiro–São Paulo corridor - known as the Rodovia Presidente Dutra highway - with the intention to reach 1,000 e-trucks operating daily by 2030 and the potential to procure thousands trucks in the same timeline. Replacing diesel trucks with this many electric trucks could prevent about 75,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions in 2030, the equivalent to removing over 16 thousand cars tailpipe emissions.
This effort will represent one of the largest private sector collaborations in Brazil’s transportation, including companies like, ABB, AIT Worldwide Logistics, Amazon, A.P Moller-Maersk, Arcadis, CEVA Logistics, C.H. Robinson, DHL Supply Chain, Ecorodovias, Electreon, LOTS Group, Motiva, Siemens, Volkswagen Truck & Bus, Vamos, Voltta, TRATON GROUP.
Currently, communities living around Brazil’s most vital economic artery are exposed to emissions from more than 19,000 trucks operating daily. The Laneshift e-Dutra project will help mitigate the public health impacts caused by internal combustion engine technologies, while enhancing the resilience of this essential economic activity.
“Rio de Janeiro is proud to be at the forefront of this transformation. We were the first city in Brazil to open a public electric charging station, and we’re now accelerating with innovative partnerships to deliver 15 charging hubs across the city by 2028 through the Laneshift initiative. The Laneshift e-Dutra Project is a clear example of how cities can join forces and drive real, lasting change toward a more sustainable future” said Rio de Janeiro’s Mayor, Eduardo Paes.
The e-Dutra coalition targets for at least 1,000 electric truck trips, supported by charging infrastructure, along the corridor by 2030 in line with the targets of the Global MOU and Brazil’s commitment to the Paris Agreement.
Sally Fouts, Global Director of The Climate Pledge, believes the Laneshift e-Dutra Project is a powerful example of progress through collaboration: “Freight transport underpins the global economy, and moving the sector towards zero-tailpipe emissions is critical to creating healthier communities and promoting new economic opportunities,” she said. “The Laneshift Program demonstrates this is both possible and practical, with strong coordination with state entities aimed at benefitting people, the planet, and the economy.”
The Coalition will not only dramatically cut carbon emissions and improve air quality for local communities, but also encourage the switch to electric freight throughout Brazil’s logistics sector, inspiring a new generation of environmental and social stewardship for the logistics sector, demonstrating how to make electric trucks viable faster.
“Electrifying road freight transport is a necessary step in the energy transition of supply chains. But it requires collaboration across the entire ecosystem including private companies, regulators, and infrastructure providers. The Laneshift e-Dutra project shows how cross-sector cooperation can accelerate this transition and deliver tangible benefits to the communities along Brazil’s most important freight corridor” Said Morten Bo Christiansen, SVP, Head of Energy Transition at A.P. Moller– Maersk.
Creating the Future of Green Logistics, Today
The e-Dutra Coalition is already delivering. Volkswagen Truck & Bus, in collaboration with Lots Group, pioneered the first electric trip on this road segment under the coalition umbrella to prove electric trucking and map the current infrastructure and its challenges. The e-Delivery truck ran 800 kilometers between Resende (RJ) and Sorocaba (SP), mainly on the Dutra highway using existing chargers, other pilot trips being planned in the future.
“We are committed to develop sustainable transport solutions for everyone. This is why we joined the coalition as an initiator: to support building a smarter mobility to the next generations. And it certainly involves our partnership with different stakeholders to harness the collective power that will make a difference”
Roberto Cortes, President and CEO of Volkswagen Truck & Bus
"The e-Dutra coalition shows that strategic collaboration isn’t just powerful — it’s the fuel to accelerate green logistics, making it a reality right now. It perfectly embodies LOTS' purpose of integrating and enabling a green logistics ecosystem — being a true catalyst for a carbon-free future."
Edson Guimares, CEO LOTS Group
DHL Supply Chain in collaboration with Amazon and Scania have also started operating a 30G 4x2 heavy-duty electric truck between Cajamar (SP) and Taubaté (SP), demonstrating the imminence of zero-tailpipe emission trucking.
“At DHL Supply Chain, we believe that decarbonizing transportation is essential for the future of logistics. Joining the e-Dutra project reinforces our global commitment to sustainable solutions and innovation in Brazil. This initiative is not just about electrifying trucks, it’s about transforming the supply chain to create economic and environmental value for our customers and for society”
Plinio Pereira, President of DHL Supply Chain Brazil
By integrating lessons learned on vehicle performance, route optimization, and the practical requirements for large-scale commercial charging networks, the Laneshift e-Dutra project is poised to accelerate the rollout of reliable, high-capacity charging stations, and provide a blueprint for national replication.
"AIT is responsible for thousands of deliveries every year along the e-Dutra corridor. We are proud to support electrification of the route which will enable us to provide meaningful emissions reduction opportunities for our global customers with business along this high-volume roadway in Brazil”
Chelsea Lamar
Vice President of Global Sustainability, AIT Worldwide
“At Voltta, we believe the energy transition must be accessible, efficient, and scalable. Joining the e-Dutra coalition reinforces our commitment to democratizing electric mobility in Brazil by connecting technology, infrastructure, and clean energy. Today we are building the network that will make electric freight transport not only viable, but advantageous for businesses, communities, and the planet.”
Leonardo Burgos
Chief Commercial Officer, Voltta
The Coalition will aggregate large-scale commitments from shippers and logistics providers, creating a strong demand signal and promoting greater confidence in charging infrastructure and electric truck investment. Infrastructure is the catalyst for customers demands and, thus, increased vehicle deployments, and with scale comes efficiency: higher truck volumes drive down unit costs. Innovative financing mechanisms—whether through blended finance, public guarantees,or risk-sharing arrangements— will help unlock capital and build investor confidence, ultimately accelerating the virtuous cycle of sustainable freight transformation.
“Joining the e-Dutra Coalition to create an electric vehicle charging network along the Presidente Dutra Highway, puts into practice key recommendations from the Transport Decarbonization Coalition’s action plan, and promotes fleet electrification, to cut sectoral emissions by up to 70% by 2050. In addition to reinforcing our commitment to the sustainability agenda, this initiative applies Motiva's newly launched innovation strategy to accelerate the adoption of smart road technologies that enhance users experience."
Pedro Sutter, Vice President for Innovation, Technology, Risk and Sustainability at Motiva
"Arcadis are thrilled to join e-Dutra Coalition to collectively work on ways to decarbonize transport and scale Brazil’s first zero-emission road freight network"
Simon Swan
Global Solutions Director - New Mobility, Arcadis
