Smart Freight Centre Releases Industry-Standard GHG Calculation Method for Ro-Ro Shipping

Smart Freight Centre (SFC) hosted the official Global Ro-Ro Community stakeholders’ meeting during its annual flagship event, Smart Freight Week, in Amsterdam on March 18. Global stakeholders involved in the transportation of finished vehicles by sea came together to launch the standard methodology for scope 3 Greenhouse Gas emissions accounting for deep-sea Ro-Ro shipping.

Smart Freight Centre (SFC) hosted the official Global Ro-Ro Community kick-off meeting during its annual flagship event, Smart Freight Week, in Amsterdam on April 23. The aim of launching the Global Ro-Ro Community is to establish an ISO 14083 / GLEC compliant global standard for scope 3 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions accounting for deep-sea Ro-Ro shipping, by bringing together stakeholders involved in the transportation of finished vehicles by sea i.e. carriers (shipping lines) and shippers (OEMs).

Driving decarbonization in shipping: Smart Freight Centre and ECG publish the first ever methodology harmonizing emissions accounting in the Ro-Ro segment

Smart Freight Centre and ECG issue the first harmonized methodology, in line with ISO 14083, to calculate Ro-Ro GHG emissions. The methodology is the result of a project where Ro-Ro operators co-operated for 6 months led by Smart Freight Centre. This is part of a wider multimodal project to harmonize emissions accounting from automotive supply chains led by ECG and VDA.
