Western Corridor Consortium

Building an end-to-end zero-emission freight route from Sweden to Spain

Smart Freight Centre (SFC) and Milence are launching a new multi-country corridor initiative designed to accelerate zero-emission truck operations across Europe, connecting Sweden to Spain.

The rollout will take place in phases.

Based on our 2025 member survey, Phase 1 focuses on the Western European markets best positioned to scale battery-electric trucks today: The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and France. Later phases will integrate additional countries along the north–south route toward Spain. Markets can also be added sooner if strong member interest or operational requirements are identified.

Why Phase 1?

Member insights and market conditions show that Phase-1 countries offer:

  • Strong eHDV adoption momentum
  • Mature and growing high-power public charging
  • Clean electricity supply
  • Attractive financial incentives
  • High-density freight flows

Together, these conditions create the most viable pathway to improve TCO and accelerate real-world deployment.

How we work

SFC serves as project lead and neutral coordinator, aggregating demand from shippers, LSPs, and carriers along the corridor to support TCO-viable electrification.

Milence provides the charging backbone, enabling access to today’s public high-power network, with additional hubs to be added across the full Sweden–Spain alignment in future phases.

Benefits of joining the consortium include

  • Accelerated BET deployment and improved truck TCO via consortium level action
  • Access to discounted rates at Milence charging hubs in all four countries
  • Sustainability leadership through green energy supply and Scope 3 reporting
  • Freight demand analysis and corridor electrification planning
  • Support for carriers with financing tools, subsidy guidance, and other enablers
